Why teaching?
I am in the education profession because I believe that as world citizens, we have an urgent responsibility to affect our community, country, and world in as many positive ways as possible.  Educating our future leaders is my contribution to that belief.

Best part of teaching?
The best part of teaching is introducing kids to something that they become passionate about.

Favorite quote from a student?
“Mrs. Oglesby, Connor is stuck in the dumpster.”

What is the best experience I had as an educator?
I had a new student who had a verified visual disability, and was thought to have a cognitive disability. His previous school had reported extremely low academics. In reality, he was trying to do triple digit math problems in his head with no borrowing or carrying marks. He was able to complete double digit math problems but triple digit problems yielded mistakes. Once I taught him to carry and borrow with the correct marks, his academics improved greatly. When he left my classroom, he had graduated out of mild moderate services but, continued to receive vision services.
When asked, what he would wish for, if any wish could be granted, his reply was to make his ears smaller. Incredibly, it was not to correct his eye sight. A caring individual came forward to pay for the reduction of his ears.
This is a happy ever after story and I love it all!

What is my favorite noise?
My favorite noise is a student bursting with laughter as he/she is reading a beloved book.
