B-1 image: B-1 romm art...

Welcome to my classroom! I hope you have had
a great summer. I'm very excited to start this new school
year with you and can't wait for us to begin making
great memories together. I LOVE teaching first graders.
Each of you is so very special. I know that
it will be a very good year for us.

Life in First Grade

Parents, we all know it's a big step from Kindergarten to first grade. First graders are becoming more independent and more adaptable, too. The school day is a little more demanding, and homework is a little more complicated. Of course, first grader have a lot of energy! As the year goes on, first graders learn more about expressing their thoughts and feelings. They also learn how to better respect others and participate in groups. First graders find out that mistakes are not the end of the world, but a part of the learning process.

In my classroom, students will build upon their accomplishments form Kindergarten. They will learn to identify more sight words, and to print words legibly with proper capitalization. They will distinguish between the main idea and details in stories, and they will recall the sequence of events n oral and written stories. Students will count higher than every before, they'll add and subtract, and they will use tools to think about mathematics. My first graders will make more detailed observations of the natural world, and become more thoughtful about their own lives.

Life is interesting, fun, and full of learning in first grade. Your young student will have a great time in my classroom!

All About Me

I have been teaching for twenty years and I love it very, very much! I have three children and five stepchildren that you will hear me talk about a lot! My children are Jordan Young (26), Melissa Young (23), and Megan Young (20). My stepchildren are the Pollard boys: Christopher (23), Justin (20), Devin (17), Brandon (14), and Preston (11). Then of course there is my husband, Mr. Pollard! Now I'll just have to warn you that you'll also hear a lot about Jackson, Sam, and Moses, our pets. They just happen to be the most hilarious dog and cats around!

More about Ms. Pollard,
from our principal:

Ms. Pollard's first grade classroom is an engaging learning environment where all students bring their energy and passion together to learn. She demonstrates a loving commitment to her students and is able to differentiate her practice for her varied levels of learners.
