The Blabber Makes the Big Time

blabberbigtime:

Every once in a while, The Blabber is mentioned in a "real" publication. For example, Dick Kreck has mentioned the kids and their work in his column in The Denver Post more than once. Here is the text from one of those columns...

BROMWELL BLABBER OFFERS
THE REAL POLITICAL LOWDOWN

Wednesday, November 29, 2000

I think "bribe" is such a harsh term, don't you? I prefer to think of it as an "enhancement."

Student journalists from Bromwell Elementary School made their annual pilgrimage to The Post on Monday. They come down each year to reap the benefits of my years of experience in wordsmithing - and to bring me a copy of the school paper, the world-famous Bromwell Blabber, known all over their east Denver neighborhood.

This year's issue is a timely one, all about the presidential election. No, not that one. The one at Bromwell, won by fifth-grader Ann Stookesberry, "probably helped by the jump rope tricks she performed on stage," according to a story by Helen Gaffigan. This is better than the song-and-dance we get from grown-up politicians.

The paper ("The Patriotic All-American Stars-'n'-Stripes Special Political Election Edition") also polled students on the national race. Final count: Gore 25, Bush 9, Nader 5, Buchanan 1, Earl F. Dodge 1 (buy that kid a cold one).

By the way, the kids also mentioned the annual Bromwell House Tour, which helps pay for nontraditional classes like the Blabber. It's from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. More info at 303-388-5969. This mention is not a payback for the treats the students brought in. That would be wrong.

Dick Kreck's column appears Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
He may be reached at 303-820-1456 or DKreck@denverpost.com.
