Physical Disabilities Center Program (PD)
Cecily Campbell, Special Educator

The Center Program for Students with Physical Disabilities at Bromwell School is one of many center programs offered by Denver Public Schools Student Services Department for students with special needs. The Bromwell PD program has been in place for almost 20 years and has served students with a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities.

The focus of this program is inclusion of students in the general education curriculum to the fullest extent possible, incorporating academic and personal supports when necessary. Students receive resource room services, general education classroom assistance, personal care assistance, and speech, physical, and occupational therapies as determined by their IEPs. Our Center program students typically employ a great deal of assistive technology to access the school curriculum both in the resource room and the general education classroom. This can range from augmentative communication devices, computer software, and specialized keyboards, to custom pencil grips, book stands, and scissors.

Bromwell School is fully accessible to wheelchairs, including the playground and some of its equipment. We are staffed with a highly qualified special education teacher and several paraprofessionals who are specially trained to work with the needs of our students. Our school community, including students, teachers, parents, and staff provide a safe, supportive, and genuinely caring environment for the PD Center program students.

Referrals to our program are made by the staffing team at each student’s neighborhood school. We can also accommodate short visits on a limited basis with advance scheduling. Bromwell offers regularly scheduled informational tours in the Fall. Please call the office for information.

For more information about this program and the students it serves, please go to Learning Together, which presents a series of articles written by Bromwell parent Ann Bersani. The series explores a range of issues related to children who have learning disabilities, cognitive delays, physical disabilities or other challenges to learning.
