Our Challenge program

challpik:

The Challenge/GT program at Bromwell is fun and exciting. Here's the plan for this program, as adopted on 12-1200 by our CDM (Policy #6):

It is the goal of Bromwell Elementary School to challenge each student according to his/her abilities, and to help each child achieve significant academic growth during the school year regardless of his/her ability level.

Philosophy concerning instruction of high-ability students:

Each student will receive instruction in his or her assigned classroom regardless of his or her ability level. Every effort will be made to meet the childÁ[oe]s academic needs within their assigned classroom. It will not be school policy to send students to a higher grade for accelerated instruction in a given subject area.

Parents will be offered workshops and printed materials to increase their understanding of the special needs of Gifted/Talented/Challenge students. Parents will also be encouraged to get more involved with school efforts to challenge these students at school.

High-quality training on ways to identify and challenge GT/Challenge students within the regular classroom will be obtained and provided for faculty.

Classroom teachers will make every effort to minimize or eliminate make-up work for students who leave class to attend Challenge.

Faculty will be encouraged to use the Challenge teacher more frequently as a resource to devise ways to further challenge these students during regular class time.

Challenge/GT participation may require additional outside work for students involved in the program. The Challenge teacher will assign this work.
