Social Emotional Learning – SEL at Bromwell

Hello everyone, this week and last week we started discussing the differences between Bullying, Teasing, Mean/Hot moments, and Conflict.  We want our bears to be able to distinguish between these topics and know when they are facing such a thing.  We also want them to be able to be upstanders and advocate for themselves or others when facing any moment that may make them feel uncomfortable, or use tools when seeing a behavior that may make them feel unsafe.  Please find below some resources I used when explaining this in the morning announcements.

LEAP is accepting applications for the 2024-25 winter heating season

The Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) is a federally funded program that helps eligible hard-working Colorado families, seniors and individuals pay a portion of their winter home heating costs. Our goal is to help bring warmth, comfort and safety to your home and family by assisting with heating costs.  You can find out more information and apply HERE.

We’ve partnered with Formula Roofing (shout-out to Nick Dillen, their Operations Manager, and Bromwell dad of two!), who is generously donating $500 per roof back to Bromwell PTA — and they’ve already given us $6500 this year! If we can send them an additional 5 families that need new roofs before the end of 2024, they’ll donate a bonus $1,000, potentially bringing this year’s total to $10,000!! Just contact Formula Roofing and mention ‘Bromwell’. Share with local friends and family! And see a fun picture of the Formula Roofing team with the Bromwell Bear and PTA board members attached and HERE. 🙂

Ongoing Reminders

  • Students cannot be dropped off at school until after 7:30am, and MUST be picked up no later than 2:50pm, unless you have signed up for Discovery Link.
  • If you are late, you must park in the neighborhood and walk in with your child(ren).
  • Breakfast ends at 7:50am so the kitchen can prepare for lunch.  If you would like your Bear to take advantage of free breakfast, please drop them off prior to 7:50am.

Weather Reminders

With the change in weather, please send you children with layers and rain jackets as needed.  As snow starts to come, please send snow boots and snow pants.  Please make sure to label your students gear so if it ends up in the Lost and Found, we can get it returned to the correct owner.  We want our Bears to enjoy outdoor recess as much as possible!

Looking for something to do during your lunch break?  Come volunteer during our lunch/recess times!  When you arrive, check in at the front office, grab an orange vest, and then make the rounds in the lunchroom to help kids open things, stay focused on eating (save the sillies for outside!).  Outside, you might get asked to push a kid on a swing, referee a game, or have an existential conversation.  Here are the times:

ECE & Kinder: 10:45 – 11:35

First & Second: 11:10 – 11:55

Fourth: 11:30 – 12:15

Third & Fifth: 11:40 – 12:35
