Specials Spotlight – Library!
The Bromwell library is a busy place these days! Our middle and older grades have been reading biographies about people who have overcome extreme adversity to do incredible things and make a difference in our world. We’ve read All the Way to the Top, the story about Jennifer Keelan, the activist whose participation in the Capitol Crawl at just eight years old encouraged Congress to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act. We’ve also read The Girl Who Ran, about Bobbi Gibb, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon (disguised as a man because women weren’t allowed to run)! And, the biography of Ruby Bridges, who at 6, was the first Black student to attend the all white William Frantz Elementary School. Your students listen intently, ask thoughtful questions and reflect on how their world would be different if it hadn’t been for these people leading the way. I love the discussion and sharing that comes after each of these books and I hope they leave inspired!
Our youngest students have been reading books that celebrate their wonderful imaginations! Boxitect, Gifts from the Garbage Man, Have Fun Molly Lou Melon and The Watcher – The story of Jane Goodall have been some recent favorites. The reflection and conversation that follows is always thoughtful and full of joy!
This spring, we’ve also been able to start a 4th grade book club (we’re reading Julie of the Wolves) and be on the lookout for the Bromwell Blabber, our school’s newspaper that is making a comeback!
School Choice Round 1 Opened January 15th!
The DPS Choice process opens 1/15 and closes on 2/18 with results typically released before Spring Break. If you are a current ECE family, or a family that already has a student at Bromwell looking to enroll a sibling and not in the boundary, you will need to do the school choice application for Bromwell. We do prioritize siblings of existing students, but we do not have control over how the DPS Choice Office algorithm assigns students to school(s) or their waitlist number.
Prior to applying, please make sure your address is correct in your Parent Portal.
If you have additional choice or enrollment questions, you can reach out to Lexie Krohn Parker in the front office, alexis_krohn-parker@dpsk12.net or 720-424-9330.
Bromwell PTA Corner
The Annual Multicultural Night is on February 27th!
Please join the community for the PTA’s Annual Multicultural Night from 4-6pm! If you’re interested in hosting a table, please sign up HERE. Students will also be doing projects during the week that will be on display throughout the building.
We have the venue… we have the date… we need the committee and items to auction!
The Bromwell Party & Auction is on April 5th from 6-9pm at Woods Boss Brewery. We need you to help with procuring auction items. Please complete THIS form if you’re able to help connect the auction committee with items, companies, restaurant owners… so many ways to help us continue the PTA $200,000 grant to the school each year!
Ongoing Reminders
Weather Reminders
With the change in weather, please send you children with layers and rain jackets as needed. As snow starts to come, please send snow boots and snow pants. Please make sure to label your students gear so if it ends up in the Lost and Found, we can get it returned to the correct owner. We want our Bears to enjoy outdoor recess as much as possible!
Please remember that any parent/guardian entering the building at any time must always go through the front doors of the school and check in at the office.
Illness Protocol Updates – Norovirus
With so many outbreaks in DPS schools, we are asking to keep your family home for 72 hours to keep our community safe. This includes at least 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Nurse Brooke and our health office, they can provide additional guidance as needed.
