UPDATE FROM NURSE BROOKE – As most are aware, there has been a significant uptick in cases of RSV in Colorado.  To help support the health of our Bromwell community, we will be adopting some extra measures suggested by the state (CDPHE), specifically:

  • Any student with a positive RSV case should remain home for 72 hours from the onset of their symptoms.
  • ECE students should remain home for 72 hours from the onset of any respiratory symptoms given their increased risk of hospitalization if they become ill.
  • We will strongly encourage students and staff to mask who may be experiencing even mild respiratory symptoms.
  • We will be encouraging an increase frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of high touch surfaces.
  • Bromwell health office will be making a strong consideration to leadership for masking the entire school if respiratory illness is widespread.
  • We will continue to use the “How Sick is Too Sick” (Spanish version) evaluation methodology and remind students of proper coughing etique
  • In addition, DPS partners with a variety of community-based organizations to offer health services, vaccinations and other health resources to students. DPS students are able to access health services at no cost by visiting any of our 19 Denver Health Pediatrics, School-Based Health Centers.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 303-602-8958.  For Bromwell specific questions or concerns, please reach out to Brooke Goudy, brooke_goudy@dpsk12.net, 720-424-9340.

DPS ASSESSMENTS – There is an upcoming opportunity for our community to share feedback, and also join a focus group if desired, regarding standardized assessments (testing) at our school.  If you would like to share feedback, and volunteer to join one of the four upcoming virtual opportunities to discuss assessments at DPS, please CLICK HERE.  All focus groups will be held at 5PM, on Dec. 6, Dec. 15, Jan. 10 and Jan. 12.

BEAR BIZ UPDATE – Bromwell community members, we need your help!  Do you work with, or are you friends with or a loyal customer of a retail business in the Denver area?  We would love for you to share some information!  Bear Biz helps fundraise for our school while connecting the local businesses to the pawsome purchasing power of the Bromwell community.  Each business that signs up will get a coveted Bear Biz sticker for their door and a spot on the Bear Biz online directory.  If you know a business that could be a member of Bear Biz, we are asking you to please share a copy of the attached Bear Biz flier, or use this LINK.  You can check the directory to see if the business is already onboard.  Also, if you connect with a you business, please fill out the following google form so we can keep track of the work being done.  Our goal is to sign up 75 businesses!  If you have any questions, please reach out to BromwellBearBiz@gmail.com.

HOLIDAY DRIVE – Bromwell has a long tradition of supporting families in need during the holidays.  One opportunity to spread holiday cheer gives to those at our school who need some extra joy and love this time of year by making holiday gift baskets for our Bromwell families.  If you would like to donate, you can either sign-up for specific items using this sign-up genius, or you are welcome to give whatever you’d like!  Please sign-up and donate by 12/13.  You can bring items to the front office or give to a volunteer at kiss and go.

Our second opportunity to help those within our broader community, is to support our coat/hat/glove drive to ensure students at Valverde Elementary School stay warm this winter.  Please send gently used (or new!), clean winter coats, hats and/or gloves to school by 12/13, and we will distribute them to Valverde students before the winter break.  If you’d like to volunteer to help collect items at drop off, please sign-up HERE.  (If your family is experiencing hardship, please reach out to our school psychologist, John Gallagher, at john_gallagherjr@dpsk12.org.  We are committed to maintaining confidentiality and ensuring dignity as we aim to spread holiday joy to everyone within our community.)

Finally, our friends at The Bookies bookstore are helping us share holiday joy through reading!  The Bookies is giving 15% back to Bromwell on all purchases starting TODAY, though December 10.  This is a great was to support our community bookstore and give back to our school.  You can shop in-store or ONLINE.  Also, we have asked our teachers to generate classroom wishlists, so while you are shopping for home, you can shop for your Bears’ classrooms as well!  Please keep an eye out for your classroom specific wishlist in an upcoming Classroom Liaison email.

ENRICHMENT – Enrollment for winter enrichment runs through December 8.  Please find the winter program brochure HERE.  If you participated in Fall enrichment, our program coordinators want to hear from you!  Please find a survey HERE and provide your feedback!

PTA UPDATES – If you are in need of translation services for December’s PTA meeting, please email bromwellpta@gmail.com by December 6.  The agenda for our upcoming meeting can be found HERE.  And finally, thanks to a large anonymous grant during the final week of our Annual Fund, we were able to raise $121,804!  We are so grateful to our community for rallying around our school, and helping ensure Bromwell will continue
