Specials Spotlight – Art!

It’s been impressive to watch our oldest Bears in 5th, 4th and 3rd guide their creative experience using Oil Pastels. Learning 4 blending techniques to incorporate into a thoughtful composition showing the artists chosen Elements of Art and Design. With 2nd, 1st and Kinder we are exploring Color Theory through the medium of Tempera Paint. Our guiding inspiration for this week is author Herve Tullet’s interactive book Mix It Up! and the famous artist and “Color Master” himself Henri Matisse.

Illness Protocol Updates – Norovirus

With so many outbreaks in DPS schools, we are asking to keep your family home for 72 hours to keep our community safe. This includes at least 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Nurse Brooke and our health office, they can provide additional guidance as needed.

Social Emotional Learning – SEL at Bromwell

Hello all, Mr. Tay here. This past week and some of this week, we have started working on our Social Filter and “Think It vs. Say It/Do It.” Just like a filter, we try our best to strain our thoughts based on the situation we find ourselves in, whether expected or unexpected, before we do or say whatever the thought is. Hopefully, after filtering, we can pause and think: is this a “Think It, stays in my head for now” or “Say It/Do It, release that thought into the world”? This is, of course, a lifelong lesson of learning time, place, and social setting, and we will continue to touch on this every now and again. As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, and I have included an example of a social filter below.

2024-2025 BESS Mid-Year Screening

Bromwell students will complete universal mental health screening 3 times/year using the Behavior and Emotional Screening System (BESS). This is an online tool that takes approximately five minutes to complete and consists of 28 questions for the student to answer. Our teachers will complete the BESS for all students, and 3rd-5th grade students will complete self-reports.

Mid-year BESS screening will occur during the weeks of 1/21/25-1/31/25. You are also invited to complete a parent form by going to this link. Have your student’s ID number ready.

Please reach out to Christina Campbell, School Psychologist, with any questions regarding these screeners. Christina_campbell@dpsk12.org

Ongoing Reminders

Weather Reminders

With the change in weather, please send you children with layers and rain jackets as needed.  As snow starts to come, please send snow boots and snow pants.  Please make sure to label your students gear so if it ends up in the Lost and Found, we can get it returned to the correct owner.  We want our Bears to enjoy outdoor recess as much as possible!

Please remember that any parent/guardian entering the building at any time must always go through the front doors of the school and check in at the office.

  • Students cannot be dropped off at school until after 7:30am, and MUST be picked up no later than 2:50pm, unless you have signed up for Discovery Link.
  • If you are late, you must park in the neighborhood and walk in with your child(ren).
  • Breakfast ends at 7:50am so the kitchen can prepare for lunch.  If you would like your Bear to take advantage of free breakfast, please drop them off prior to 7:50am.

School Choice Round 1 Opens January 15th!

The DPS Choice process opens 1/15 and closes on 2/18 with results typically released before Spring Break.  If you are a current ECE family, or a family that already has a student at Bromwell looking to enroll a sibling and not in the boundary, you will need to do the school choice application for Bromwell.  We do prioritize siblings of existing students, but we do not have control over how the DPS Choice Office algorithm assigns students to school(s) or their waitlist number.

Prior to applying, please make sure your address is correct in your Parent Portal.

If you have additional choice or enrollment questions, you can reach out to Lexie Krohn Parker in the front office, alexis_krohn-parker@dpsk12.net or 720-424-9330.
