Bromwell Bulletin 10/5/23

Posted October 25, 2023

It’s hard to believe we’re already in October!  We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night at movie night.  Below is some new information as well as some reminders.

  • Bromwell is going to have a basketball team again!  We are hoping to have two teams this year as well as open it to our third graders.  We are looking for players, additional volunteer coaches and referees.  Season will start the week of 10/16 – 12/7, with potential for a tournament if there are enough DPS teams.  Practices will be one day a week at school around 5pm, with games a mix of home and away on Thursdays.  Please complete this interest form so we can get organized and schedules finalized.
  • If you are not receiving emails from your teachers, please reach out to them directly to ensure that they have accurate email addresses for your family.  If you would like to receive room parent emails, please make sure to add your contact information to the Google Sheets link that is on each grade level website.
  • Our Volunteer-Run Library is Open! We are entering our third year of opening our library, thanks to all of the amazing volunteers in our community!  Please sign up HERE.  If you need training, please email Karen Calle from the PTA at volunteers@bromwellpta.org

Behavior and Emotional Screening System (BESS)

All DPS schools are currently screening students’ social-emotional wellbeing. This school year, all students will complete screening using the Behavior and Emotional Screening System (BESS). The BESS involves having teachers complete a 20-item questionnaire on each of their students. In addition to the teacher ratings, students in grades 3rd-5th will fill out the Student Self-Report Form to rate their own social-emotional wellness. To provide a more complete picture of a student’s social-emotional wellness, parents can also complete the BESS on their child by accessing the link below. The results of the BESS will be made available to parents at Conferences

During the beginning of the year registration, you had an opportunity to opt your child out of completing the Student Self-Report Form of the BESS.

If you, the parent/guardian, would like to confirm or rescind your opt-out decision, please do so by calling your school’s front office.

You have the right, upon request, to review the items on the BESS This is completed through a phone call, video call, or in-person meeting with your child’s school. Due to copyright, school teams are not able to send a copy of the questions home prior to screening.

If we do not receive contact from you about confirming or changing to OPTing-OUT your student, we will assume you are choosing to have your child participate in the Student Self-Report Form of the BESS.
