Gifted & Talented

What Gifted and Talented means in DPS

In the Denver Public Schools, “gifted and talented children” means those students whose demonstrated abilities, talents and/or potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational needs. These students perform, or show the potential of performing, at remarkably high levels in intellectual, specific academic or creative areas when compared with others of their age and experience. Gifted and talented children are present in all student groups, regardless of gender, disability, English language proficiency, economic status, ethnic or cultural background.

Identifying Students

Identification of gifted students occurs year round in DPS. The gifted and talented teacher at each school monitors student data in several key areas that the district has determined are indicators of giftedness. Students identified as highly gifted have the option of attending a highly gifted magnet school for elementary or middle school. Scores from this battery of tests are also used to identify gifted students.  Learn more about gifted and talented services in DPS at https://studentequity.dpsk12.org/gifted-talented/

Pretty Please and thank you!

At Bromwell, we are committed to laying a foundation of lifelong learning for all students, including our highest ability learners, by fostering an inclusive and equitable environment that nurtures each individual’s unique talents. Classroom teachers deliver inclusive learning experiences within the general education setting, supported by our Gifted and Talented Coordinator, who provides resources and professional development to strengthen capacity across the school. Our comprehensive approach to gifted and talented identification incorporates multiple measures—such as teacher observations, creativity tasks, parent input, and testing—to ensure that no potential goes unrecognized, especially among diverse and underrepresented students. Central to our commitment to equity is addressing identification gaps and cultivating a supportive school climate. By promoting creativity, imagination, and critical thinking—and continuously analyzing data to eliminate barriers—we provide equitable opportunities that empower each child to realize their fullest potential within a nurturing and engaging environment.
