December 16, 2022

Dear Bromwell Families,

We did it! As we head into winter break, about to welcome a New Year, I can’t help but beam with pride at what we’ve accomplished in 2022!

Wow, thinking about where we were last December, still in masks, thinking about what the next variant of COVID would be, managing all of the emotions that come with disruptions in routine and learning time. Now, we can celebrate the last few months of in-person instruction, students working harder than ever, friendships growing, and minds expanding. We just wrapped up our first sessions of music with T360. Our third graders love African drumming and are now incorporating those lessons on yoga balls in the gym (how fun is that?). Our 2nd graders had the experience of learning song writing skills from a Grammy attending artist too. A walk down our hallways surrounds you with our students’ artwork, dreams, and life-goals. I am inspired daily by the creativity of each of our Bears, and hearing them in small-groups sharing their perspectives on a chapter, math problem, or principle of science is amazing. Our kindergarten, first, and second grade students have been digging into their new literacy and skills CKLA curriculum and all grades look forward to starting a new social studies program next semester. Thank you for sharing your student with us.

I am also constantly inspired watching our staff do what they are passionate about, sharing their love of learning. Everyday Bromwell teachers make sure your students are engaged, challenged, and supported. As a school we are fully staffed, and I’m so glad to see new staff members Travis West and Steve Lasky, SpEd Paraprofessionals in our halls. Keep an eye on BWell bulletins in the New Year introducing each of them. In the new year, we will also welcome a student teacher from MSU in 5th grade and a student teacher from UNC in Mrs. Stevenson’s first grade class.

Speaking of new things, have you been checking your grade level website regularly? There are resources to support your Bear, updates about grade specific plans, and reminders. Our teachers are working hard to keep communication flowing, including sharing photos of classroom happenings.

As with any ending, there is a beginning. 2023, here we come! Our 5th graders will spend their last few months at Bromwell, our 3-5th graders will take some time from the daily routine participating in CMAS testing, and our younger grades will continue to develop their academic and physical skills at warp speed. We just got notice too that our 2023-2024 starting bell time will be 7:40 AM and dismissal will be at 2:40 PM . We are ready to support your student and you every step of the way!

But first we take a break. I hope this Winter Break is exactly what you and your family need. I am looking forward to seeing you next year (aka, in a few weeks). Happy Holidays!

My best,

Valecia von Weise
