While it has been wonderful to welcome our Bears back from Spring Break, I have a heavy heart regarding the horrific events that have happened in schools over the past few weeks. Please know that the safety of our students and staff is a top priority at Bromwell.
When there is an emergency situation, my primary focus is immediately ensuring the safety of our students and staff in the building. I understand and appreciate that communication is key, and fear for your student well-being by you and your family is unavoidable. DPS guidelines direct me to only send out communications regarding information specific to Bromwell campus. When there are situations, emergencies, and crises at other schools, that communication originates with the District Communications team. I understand and empathize that this is difficult, and am always open to feedback on how to best communicate with the school-wide community. Please continue to send me your ideas and feedback.
As we continue to evolve and develop our own security practices, we will be integrating the Raptor visitor management system into our Front Office operations. This means every visitor to Bromwell will need a photo ID and will get a printed name tag that says “Visitor”. So, even if we all know you, please have an ID available if you are planning on walking past the Front Office. There’s a quick video about the system at this link. We are also planning for increased safety measures through standard response protocol training for staff from the i love U guys Foundation. And additional planning for safety measures in our classroom and school culture plans.
Emergency situations provide an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our personal behavior tool. I know I have reflected on my own response to the crisis at East HS, and encourage you to as well. In support of this, please take a minute to review our Bromwell Community Handbook. At Bromwell, we will always respect each other and maintain decorum. This policy articulates expectations for our community.
Thank you as always for your support. I look forward to seeing you at Bromwell in the coming weeks as we finish the year strong.
In partnership,
Valecia von Weise, Principal
